Fennel Collection Unit (2012 - present)


An ongoing photography project documenting the endangered wild fennel populations of San Francisco by way of the Fennel Collection Unit van.

As the population of the city continues to shift and grow, the natural elements within its built environment are quickly becoming curated, “landscaped” and tame. Tasteful parklets pop-up every week, wide sidewalks are replaced with xeriscaped paths, and major streets such as Caesar Chavez Boulevard are altered with palm tree-lined medians. Beautiful examples of urban design no doubt. But is this trend making the city a little unsurprising, too perfect, too un-wild?
